Service flow & 7-year parts
WanderRouter Standard — Service Flow + DIY Policy
The promise: every module we ship is either user-replaceable (DIY with video + tool included) or send-back-swappable. Factory 2-year warranty on every module. 7-year spare parts guarantee. DIY on a specific module voids coverage on that module only; the rest of the device stays covered.
Special characteristic: Standard is a consumer desktop router — primary household gateway, not a rack-mount device. Service flow emphasizes DIY-friendly RAM / M.2 / USB module upgrades (no rack disassembly; user just removes top deck with T10 Torx).

DIY policy (legal + practical)
What you can DIY without voiding warranty:
- Swap RAM SODIMM (2 GB ↔ 4 GB ↔ 8 GB) — no warranty impact on rest of device
- Swap M.2 NVMe (500 GB ↔ 1 TB ↔ 2 TB ↔ 4 TB) — no warranty impact
- Install SFP+ rear daughterboard — no warranty impact on rest of device
- Install USB modules (Thread BR / Zigbee / LoRa / LTE) — no warranty impact
- Replace 4 external antennas (unscrew + screw new) — no warranty impact
- Print and install community-designed accessories (desk base, wall mount, antenna tilt clips, cable rake, dust cover) — no warranty impact
- Customize the open-STL files in CAD and print — no warranty impact
- Update firmware manually via console USB-C — no warranty impact
- Factory-reset via reset button (rear panel) — no warranty impact
- Change Wi-Fi / identity / family / VPN settings via WanderOS — no warranty impact
User-DIY modules (documented with video, tool-friendly):
- RAM SODIMM (in/out)
- M.2 NVMe (in/out)
- SFP+ daughterboard (in/out via rear-bay cutout)
- All USB modules (plug into rear USB-A or USB-C service)
- External antennas (unscrew from RP-SMA bulkhead, install replacement)
- BLE module (M.2-style daughterboard, in-chassis)
- All open-STL accessories (desk base, wall mount, antenna tilt clips, cable rake, dust cover)
- Cover swap (no functional change but allows custom-color community top deck in future)
Ambassador-only modules (require send-back service):
- DOCSIS daughterboard (v1.1) — CableLabs cert + pre-enrollment with cable-ISP required
- Lux Ambassador-engraved cream top deck (laser-etcher operation; hand-designed by Ambassador)
- Mainboard / SoC / Wi-Fi radio SMT-level repair
- TPM 2.0 replacement (identity-binding requires provisioning)
- Saffron LED strip replacement (requires chassis full disassembly + recalibration fixture)
- Saffron pinstripe re-anodize (requires anodizer)
What voids coverage on a specific module (not the whole device):
- Physical damage to that module (drop, liquid, mains surge etc.) — coverage on that module ends, rest of device continues covered
- User-initiated SMT-level modification (re-soldering, chip swap outside the module concept) — coverage on that chip ends, rest of device continues covered
- Unauthorized firmware modifications that bypass our security model (e.g., flashing a non-WanderVerse image that removes privacy features) — coverage on firmware-affected areas; hardware remains covered
What voids whole-device warranty (rare, only genuine negligence):
- Removal of the Ambassador signature card (tampering-equivalent — we use it for provenance)
- Physical damage from use outside the product's intended environment (submerged, high-humidity >80% sustained, mechanical impact beyond desktop-equipment ratings)
- Unauthorized reselling as a refurbished device without our repair
- Tampering with TPM 2.0 secure-boot chain

Send-back service procedure
For the user:
1. Open WanderOS → Device → Service → Request send-back 2. Choose service type (repair / upgrade / downgrade / top deck engraving / DOCSIS install / out-of-warranty) 3. Review estimated cost breakdown 4. Pay via integrated checkout (Stripe) 5. Print shipping label (pre-paid for in-warranty cases) 6. Pack device in original box + tool pouch + Ambassador card (don't lose the card!) + original molded-pulp tray protects chassis in transit 7. Drop off at any carrier location (UPS / FedEx / USPS work; desktop router form factor ships fine via standard ground) 8. Track progress in WanderOS — "Received" / "Diagnosing" / "Ambassador-assigned" / "In work" / "Quality check" / "Shipped" 9. Receive device back, typically 5 business days from receipt; Lux engraving 7-10 business days; DOCSIS install 5-7 business days
For the Ambassador at repair depot:
1. Receive package, scan tracking to update user's WanderOS status 2. Open service ticket; review user request + device service history 3. Open device (T10 Torx top deck); inspect interior; photograph condition 4. Perform requested work:
- RAM / NVMe / USB / antenna swap: same-day Ambassador work (15-30 min)
- SFP+ daughterboard install: 20-min Ambassador work (though DIY also documented)
- DOCSIS install (v1.1): 30-45 min + re-cert sticker + WanderOS DOCSIS activation wizard + cable-ISP pre-enrollment paperwork
- Lux top deck engraving: swap top deck to laser-etcher fixture, run Ambassador's design pattern, verify post-anodize integrity, return with new signature card
- Antenna replacement: unscrew + screw new; re-run 8-chain VSWR test
- Repair / SMT diagnosis: escalate to specialist Ambassador if beyond Tier-1 consumer scope
5. Re-test unit on production test fixture (245-sec automated 16-test pass) 6. Seal with new top deck; update Ambassador signature card if Ambassador changed 7. Pack in molded-pulp tray + outer box 8. Log work in unit service history (permanent record) 9. Ship back; scan tracking update
---
Quality standards
- Every send-back service unit passes the same 16-test production test as a factory-new unit (245-sec automated)
- Every Ambassador at the repair depot is a certified WanderVerse Ambassador (Standard 1 — supported employment)
- Every device gets a new Ambassador-signature card if the Ambassador changed (or same if the original Ambassador is doing the repair)
- Service history accumulates on the unit's permanent record (both internal card + inside-top-deck engraving for Lux units)
---
7-year spare parts commitment
Every spare part for Standard is available from ship date for at least seven years, via the Ambassador network, at cost + 10%. If demand exceeds supply for a given part, Ambassadors get priority allocation (since they're the refurb channel).
Stocked spares (7-year availability guaranteed):
- External antennas (4-pack replacement kit)
- RAM SODIMM (2 GB / 4 GB / 8 GB)
- M.2 NVMe (500 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB / 4 TB — Samsung 980 family; successor drives qualified as 980 goes EOL)
- Thermal pads (3M 5590H)
- LED strip + driver board
- Top deck cream-anodized (Standard finish) — Standard + Lux available
- Chassis body slate-anodized
- External 12V brick (Mean Well GST60A12 or qualified successor)
- Cat 6 1m cable
- Tool pouch (T10 + T8 + ESD spudger)
- Inner pulp tray + outer corrugated box
- Ambassador signature card blanks
- BLE module (Nordic nRF52840)
- Reset button + USB-A/USB-C/DC-barrel-jack connectors
What "parts" does NOT mean:
- Consumables (RTC coin cell — lasts 10+ years but excluded from 7-year guarantee)
- Items the user can source from a standards-compliant aftermarket (e.g., standard Cat 6 cables, common USB-C cables)
- Parts where a reasonable substitute exists in a WanderVerse second-generation chassis (e.g., a v2 PCB that is a drop-in replacement for v1)
- USB-attached modules purchased separately (Thread BR / Zigbee / LoRa / LTE — separate SKUs with own 7-year commitments)
What happens at year 8
We publish every manufacturing file needed to make a replacement part yourself — STLs for mechanicals, schematics sufficient for repair, firmware source that compiles to a flashable image. You are not dependent on us in perpetuity.

Repair tiers (for SERVICE-FLOW.md / AMBASSADOR-SIGNATURE context)
- Self-repair: RAM, M.2 NVMe, USB modules, external antennas, open-STL accessories — documented with video, tool pouch included
- Ambassador Tier-1 consumer assembly (25-40 min/unit): full factory assembly + 245-sec production test + Ambassador-signature. Training: 8 hours. Station investment: $500 soldering station + $500 ESD workstation + $2-5k Stage-5 fixture share (amortized).
- Ambassador Tier-2 automotive / precision (not applicable to Standard): reserved for WanderCar + medical tricorder family
- Ambassador Tier-3 medical-grade (not applicable to Standard): reserved for medical tricorder family

Ambassador signature
Every Standard unit carries an Ambassador signature in the location most user-visible of any WanderVerse SKU: the cream top deck.
Standard tier (default)
- Thermal-printed Ambassador card affixed to inside-bottom-cover (visible when chassis opened for service)
- Card includes: Ambassador ID (pseudo-random), assembly date, unit serial, QR → Ambassador's WanderVerse page
- When unit returns for service, the existing card stays; a second signature card is added beneath (accumulated provenance)
Lux tier (+$80)
- Ambassador hand-designs a unique signature pattern (their personal mark, not generic)
- Laser-etched onto the cream top deck during assembly (or as a send-back upgrade)
- Etching depth 0.05-0.1 mm — exposes underlying aluminum against cream anodize creating dark contrast
- Permanently visible from above on the desk — most user-visible signature in the WanderVerse SKU lineup
At refurbishment
When a unit returns for Ambassador refurb, a second signature is added beneath the first inside-bottom-cover card. For Lux units: the original cream top deck engraving stays; a second card documents the refurb Ambassador + work done + date.
Provenance accumulates. The device's service history is physically readable.

Survivor / identity-aware service considerations
Standard's role in an identity-aware household extends to service:
Covert / Quiet Mode support during service
- When user requests service, WanderOS offers option to scrub identity-aware data before ship (household member profiles, family filter rules, identity-aware blocklist preferences)
- Ambassador receives device with minimal user-identifying data
- After service, Ambassador sends encrypted-data-wipe confirmation; user restores from local backup if desired
Duress-code support
- Standard ships with duress-code capability (WanderOS → Security → "Duress code")
- Entering duress password on WanderOS admin reboots the device into a decoy profile (minimal setup, appears unused)
- Original configuration remains encrypted in a hidden partition; decrypted with recovery code sent to pre-shared trust contacts
- Service requests initiated from duress mode are NOT routed to the user's pre-assigned Ambassador (go to a general-pool Ambassador to protect user's Ambassador relationship from coercion)
Panic Wipe
- Not a primary feature on Standard (data is mostly network config, not PII); but Standard supports:
- Crypto-erase NVMe via WanderOS (hardware self-encryption)
- Factory-reset + TPM-reseed via reset-button hold (10 seconds)
- Combined: device returns to pre-provisioned blank state; no residual user data
Invisible Mode
- Optional: device name, admin UI chrome, SSID auto-suggestion all swap to generic ("NetworkRouter" / standard web admin / non-branded SSID suggestions)
- Toggleable in WanderOS → Security → "Invisible Mode"
- Ambassador signature card remains (hidden inside-bottom-cover)
- Coercion-resistant toggle: Invisible Mode can only be DISABLED via physical Ambassador service — prevents partner / abuser from finding the "remove Invisible Mode" option in the UI
Trust-contact-only sharing
- Standard's location sharing (via Tailscale remote access, HomeKit Find My) requires pre-shared trust list
- No default "share with anyone with link" options
- User controls every sharing path explicitly
---
Refurbishment flow (end-of-life returns)
- User returns a Standard for recycling → $25 credit toward next WanderRouter-family purchase
- Ambassador inspects: if repairable (>70% component reuse viable) → refurb for resale at 40% off retail (4-year warranty)
- Refurb units carry both original Ambassador signature + refurb Ambassador's second signature
- If not repairable (<70% viable): parts harvested for spare-parts inventory (supports 7-year commitment); chassis recycled via aluminum-grade recycling stream
---
Service-flow summary
Standard is the most user-accessible service flow in the WanderRouter family:
- DIY-friendly RAM / M.2 / USB upgrades (5-10 min per upgrade, T10/T8 Torx + tool pouch included)
- Ambassador-only for DOCSIS (cert) + Lux engraving (laser) + SMT repair
- 7-year spare parts commitment
- Desktop form factor ships standard ground via UPS/FedEx/USPS (no rack-mount special packaging)
- Most user-visible signature tier (cream top deck) in the WanderVerse SKU lineup
Ready for Stage 10 (Gate Review).
Open STL files
WanderRouter Standard — Open STL Files
Published under Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 for accessory and desktop-mounting parts (fully open — remix, redistribute, share-alike). Lux-tier Ambassador-engraved cream top deck is NOT published — that's per-order Ambassador laser-etched and unique to each Ambassador.
The image-locked chassis (slate body + cream anodized top deck + saffron pinstripe + 4× external matte-black antennas + saffron LED strip front face) is not published as STL — it's manufactured from anodized aluminum, not user-printable, and its visual fidelity binds the product. STL files in this directory cover accessories only that complement the chassis without changing it.

Community
Submit your remixes to the WanderVerse STL gallery (wanderverse.com/stl-gallery). Popular community designs may be selected for a "Community Collection" edition — Ambassadors will hand-assemble a small run of each accessory and the designer gets credit + a free Standard unit + a Lux Ambassador-engraved cream top deck.
Submission guidelines: 1. Original work or properly attributed remix (CC BY-SA 4.0 share-alike requirement) 2. Print-tested with photos of completed accessory installed on a real Standard unit 3. Print profile + material recommendation included 4. Include LICENSE.txt in your submission with CC BY-SA 4.0 license text

Why open-STL accessories?
Per Standard 3 (open STL) + Standard 4 (7-year parts) + repair-culture commitment:
- Standard lives on desks for 7-15 years; physical accessories (feet, stands, cable managers, tilt clips, dust covers) wear out, get lost, or become obsolete as users change their setup
- Users in remote regions can't always wait 5-7 days for shipping; print locally instead
- Desktop setups vary widely (cable routing, mount preferences, aesthetic match); printable accessories let users adapt Standard to their specific environment
- Community remixes generate ideas we wouldn't have shipped (e.g., USB module cable protector — community would have made this anyway; we publish to make it easy)
- Lower e-waste: a broken rubber foot shouldn't force a whole-chassis RMA
---
Future files (post-launch)
- Acoustic dampener pad — for desks with hardwood / high-resonance surfaces (cream TPU underside pad)
- Camera / webcam clip — clip that holds a small USB webcam atop the cream top deck for household video-call station without drilling
- Rack-tray adapter — for users who later acquire a half-rack cabinet + want Standard in the rack (vs desktop) — adapter fits standard 19" rack half-depth
- LED strip brightness diffuser — external clip-on diffuser for users in dark bedrooms who want even lower saffron glow than WanderOS Quiet Mode allows
- Antenna chassis attachment — for installations where a single antenna must be relocated away from chassis (e.g., mounted on ceiling for enhanced coverage); antenna-extender adapter with 1m coax extension
- Color-tint top-deck overlay — clip-on cosmetic overlays (non-destructive) for users who want visual variation without replacing the cream anodize
- HAVEN safehouse wall-plate — integrated wall-plate that hides Standard + its external brick + cables; for installations where aesthetics / security demand low-visibility mounting
- Seasonal / community edition accessories — community-designed variants (saffron-tint dust cover, pride-flag-color feet pads, etc.) — community-driven catalog
