Service flow & 7-year parts
WanderCO — Service Flow + 7-Year Parts Commitment (with 10-Year Battery Reconciliation)
Stage 10 deliverable. Life-safety device + UL 217 + UL 2034 listing + 10-year primary cell convention = service discipline matters even more than typical consumer hardware.
This document covers the entire lifecycle from first-customer-purchase to 10-year-cert-window-EOL.
---
A. 7-year parts commitment (with 10-year battery reconciliation)
Per Platform Standard 4 and SOP v2: every WanderCO part catalogued in BOM-platform.csv + BOM-modules.csv is stocked as a spare for 7 years from the last production unit of that generation, available via Ambassador network at cost + 10%.
Battery exception (D-CO-001): Tadiran TLI-1550A LiSOCl2 cells are stocked through year 12 (mandated UL 2034 sealed-battery 10-year EOL window + 2-year buffer for late-arrival units).
Parts inventory schedule
| Part class | Stock level target |
|---|
| Consumables (gaskets, O-rings, drywall anchors, screws) | 3 × annual ship volume |
| Battery cells (Tadiran TLI-1550A; Saft LS14500) | **6-12 months forward cover; stocked through year 12** |
| Modules (sensor PCBA, smoke chamber, CO sensor, SCD41) | 1 × annual ship volume |
| Long-life parts (Cree CLM3C-AKA saffron LEDs, piezo sirens) | 6-12 months forward cover (long lead times) |
| Core silicon (ESP32-S3 module, SX1262, SE051) | 6-12 months forward cover |
| Custom (PCBA, injection-molded chassis, anodized aluminum) | 3 months forward cover + tooling retained for 7 years |
When WWP runs out of a spare
- Lifetime-parts cohort: per purchase, WWP tracks customer serial + promises spares through year 7 from generation EOL (year 12 for cells)
- Spare exhaustion: WWP uses Ambassador Community Pool + open STL files + published schematics to enable community-alternative parts
- After year 7 (year 12 for cells): community-STL + community-parts channel continues. WanderVerse publishes a "last order window" 6 months before end-of-parts date.
Long-life parts specific notes
- Cree CLM3C-AKA saffron LEDs: rated >50,000 hr typical (~5.7 years continuous; far longer at typical detector duty cycles where LEDs are off >95% of the time)
- Mallory MAL-LC-2812 piezo siren: rated >50,000 hr; essentially never replaced
- Figaro TGS5042 CO sensor: 10-year rated; refresh kit available year 9-10
- Photoelectric smoke chamber: 10-year rated; refresh kit available year 9-10 (chamber + IR LED + photodiode pair)
- Tadiran TLI-1550A LiSOCl2 cells: 10-year shelf-life + 10-year operational life; refresh service at year 9-10 = entire 10-year UL window resets
The 7-year-parts-with-10-year-battery commitment for WanderCO is generous because the physical components are long-life. Cell refresh is the primary year-10 service event.

C. Ambassador service workflow
Incoming unit
1. User requests service via companion app or web portal → prints prepaid label + Ambassador-instructions slip 2. Unit arrives at WWP service facility (or routes to Ambassador's home workshop for small-volume Ambassadors with Tier-2 cert) 3. Ambassador intakes unit, scans serial, pulls service history from WanderOS 4. Ambassador matches unit to its original Ambassador — that Ambassador (if still active) receives service-credit; if not, the receiving Ambassador handles + logs continuity 5. Diagnosis documented in WanderOS service history 6. Quote back to customer if out-of-warranty or user-caused damage; customer confirms 7. Service performed at Tier-1 (cosmetic, DIY-equivalent) or Tier-2 (cell refresh, CO sensor recalibration, smoke chamber clean, mainboard swap, UL cert re-verification) 8. Test suite run — same as production test 9. Ambassador signature retained, service history updated, UL cert listing reference re-programmed if necessary (after substantial repair) 10. Return shipped to customer; Ambassador-signed service-completion card included with new UL cert listing reference (if changed)
Ambassador compensation per service job
Service revenue feeds the 60/30/10 split:
- 60 % → Ambassador doing the service work
- 10 % → PrideFund
- 30 % → WWP Community Pool
Per-service Ambassador time typically 0.5-2 hours depending on complexity. Year 9-10 full refresh (cell + smoke chamber clean + CO sensor recal) takes ~1-1.5 hr per unit.
Signature Mark preservation
- Ambassador Signature Mark is permanent across service events
- If the original Ambassador is no longer active, their signature is retained unchanged (their contribution to that unit is historical record)
- Service Ambassador adds their own service-history entry with date + signature beside the original
- Provenance accumulates
- UL cert listing reference logged separately at each service event
---
D. Warranty policy
Standard warranty (bundled with every unit)
- 2 years from purchase date on manufacturing defects
- Battery (Tadiran TLI-1550A LiSOCl2): 10-year UL window guarantee — if cell fails before year 10, free replacement at WWP cost
- Audible-alarm performance: 10 years (long-life piezo siren)
- Saffron LED ring: 10 years (Cree CLM3C-AKA rated >50,000 hr)
- CO sensor (Figaro TGS5042): 10-year rated; calibration drift covered through year 9 via free recalibration Ambassador service
- Smoke chamber: 10-year rated; chamber alignment covered through year 9 via free clean Ambassador service
- Drop/shock damage: covered up to MIL-STD-810G informational baseline; beyond-spec damage is user-caused
- IP44 ingress damage: covered if seal not user-opened (cell refresh service preserves seal warranty)
Extended warranty (opt-in purchase at order or within 60 days)
- 5 years full coverage:
- WanderCO Standard: $25
- WanderCO Pro: $35
- Extends everything above to 5 years + extended battery coverage + extended audible/strobe coverage
Warranty exclusions
- User-initiated DIY that voids module-specific warranty (stated at DIY step; rest of device remains covered)
- Damage caused by paint / cleaning chemicals on chassis (affects sensor airflow + voids UL cert)
- Neglect (stored without sealed primary cells in operation; lack of monthly self-test response)
- Cosmetic wear (case scratches, mesh face scuffing)
- Incidents beyond MIL-STD-810G informational baseline
- Vandalism / sabotage (tamper switch fires at any rear-plate-open)
- Warranty void if firmware is non-WanderVerse-signed (forced reflash detected)
- Warranty void if SE051 UL-cert-mode register has been tampered (UL cert listing voided + ship-back required for cert re-verification)
Lifetime commitment (DV-safehouses + LGBTQ-housing institutional customers)
Special designation for institutional customers (DV-safehouses, LGBTQ-housing nonprofits, Title-I rural-housing programs):
- WWP commits to maintaining alarm system uptime for the active life of the institution (subject to 7-year parts commitment + 10-year cell window for the specific generation; cross-generation upgrade path published when superseding gen ships)
- "Active life" = institution remains operating + WWP remains a viable nonprofit
- Specific institutional contract terms negotiated per-deployment for large customers
---
E. Service-plan lifecycle (none — WanderCO has zero subscription)
WanderCO has no recurring subscription. The companion app + WanderNode Hub admin web UI + mesh integration are all free forever. The only recurring spend is year 9-10 Ambassador refresh service ($35-55) which is itself a one-time event per cell-window cycle.
This is by design — life-safety devices should not require ongoing subscription to function.
---
F. End-of-life disposal
LiSOCl2 cell (primary battery)
- Always disposed at lithium-primary-cell certified recycler (Call2Recycle / municipal hazwaste; LiSOCl2 venting risk requires specialized handling)
- WWP take-back program: ship to WWP at $0 cost; Ambassador-led disassembly + cell extraction + certified recycler hand-off
- NEVER throw in standard trash or recycling — fire risk
Sensors + electronics
- Standard e-waste disposal at municipal recycler OR ship to WWP for take-back
- WWP take-back includes Figaro TGS5042 + Sensirion SCD41 (Pro) — both have hazardous-material content (electrochemical electrolyte for CO sensor; lifetime-monitoring for SCD41 metering)
Chassis (anodized aluminum)
- Standard aluminum recycling at municipal recycler
- Saffron pinstripe + perforated mesh face are aluminum + dye; standard recycling
Year 10 cert window EOL
WanderVerse publishes a "last refresh window" 6 months before year 10 EOL. Customers can: 1. Schedule Ambassador refresh service ($35-55) to reset 10-year UL window to year 20 2. Recycle via WWP take-back program 3. Replace with a new-generation WanderCO at customer's discretion (subject to upgrade path published when successor ship)
---
G. Year 9-10 cell refresh + UL cert reset (key service event)
What happens at year 9-10
- Year 9.0: Companion app shows "Battery refresh recommended in 6 months" advisory
- Year 9.5: Companion app + on-device voice prompt nightly: "WanderCO battery refresh recommended. Schedule Ambassador refresh service in app."
- Year 10.0: Device begins UL 2034 EOL nightly chirp pattern (22:00-06:00; quiet hours respected); chirp continues until refresh or replacement
- Year 10+: if no refresh, chirp continues indefinitely until cell exhaustion (~3 months); device then enters safe-mode (LED ring slow blink; companion-app warning; UL alarm function impaired)
Ambassador refresh process
1. User schedules refresh via companion app: shipping label printed 2. WanderCO removed from ceiling (quarter-turn release) 3. Shipped to Ambassador service center 4. Ambassador receives + intakes unit 5. Ambassador opens rear plate (4 × T10); removes 2 × Tadiran TLI-1550A cells 6. Cell refresh: install 2 × new Tadiran TLI-1550A cells; verify polarity; close rear plate; torque to 0.4 Nm 7. Smoke chamber clean: vacuum chamber interior; replace IR LED + photodiode pair (refresh kit) 8. CO sensor recalibration: factory-zero in clean-air reference; baseline drift compensated 9. (Pro only) SCD41 ABC reset: place in 400 ppm reference outdoor air for 5 min; firmware reset baseline 10. Full UL test fixture run: audible-alarm + LED ring + mesh interop + sensor self-test 11. UL cert listing reference re-programmed in SE051 with new 10-year window 12. WanderOS service history updated; Ambassador signature added 13. Ship back to customer; Ambassador-signed service-completion card
Cost transparency
- Service: $35-55 (depending on tier + Pro IAQ scope)
- Parts: 2× Tadiran TLI-1550A cells + smoke chamber refresh kit + CO sensor recalibration kit (+$0 if covered under 10-year warranty extension)
- Shipping: WWP-paid (return) + customer-paid (outbound) for standard; WWP-paid both ways for institutional / DV-safehouse customers
What if customer cannot afford refresh?
- WWP Community Pool subsidized refresh program: ~3% of WanderCO revenue allocated to hardship subsidies
- DV-safehouse + LGBTQ-housing donor-channel customers: free refresh covered by donor program
- Contact via companion app "Service" tab; means-tested process

Open STL files
WanderCO — Open STL Files (CC BY-SA 4.0)
Per Platform Standard 2 (Open STLs) and Standard 4 (7-year parts + year-8 community-self-repair), every WanderCO mechanical part that can be reasonably 3D-printed is published here under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0).
This means:
- You are free to download, modify, redistribute, and remix these files.
- You must credit WanderVerse / Wandering With Pride as the original source.
- Derivative works must be published under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license (share-alike).
- Commercial use is permitted; we ask you not undercut the WanderVerse Ambassador Community Pool by mass-producing identical parts for resale without contributing back to the community.

STL design + sharing principles
Why CC BY-SA 4.0?
WanderVerse believes life-safety hardware should not be locked behind proprietary licensing. CC BY-SA 4.0 ensures:
- Anyone can replicate, modify, or remix WanderCO mounting accessories to suit their unique deployment (e.g., apartment kitchen with custom cabinetry, bathroom with non-standard ventilation, basement bedroom with low-ceiling install constraints)
- Community-derived improvements flow back into the WanderVerse ecosystem
- Year 8+ (post 7-year-parts EOL — except 10-year cell window per D-CO-001), users can continue manufacturing replacement mounting accessories themselves — no dependency on WWP
What we do NOT publish (Lux + cert-critical parts)
- Figaro TGS5042 CO sensor — proprietary part, sourced from Figaro Engineering (Japan); cannot be 3D-printed
- Photoelectric smoke chamber assembly — alignment-critical (940 nm IR LED + photodiode angular tolerance ±1°); not user-printable; refresh kit available via Ambassador for year 9-10 service
- Sensirion SCD41 CO2 sensor (Pro) — proprietary part, sourced from Sensirion; cannot be 3D-printed
- Tadiran TLI-1550A LiSOCl2 cells — primary battery cells, not mechanical part
- Internal PCBA designs (separate license; CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 for the firmware source at year 8; schematics published at year 8 separately)
- Matte cream anodized aluminum chassis (130 mm × 35 mm disc) — production tooling justifies $30-50k tooling investment that 3D printing can't match for 25,000+ unit volumes; STL versions are for custom or replacement scenarios (small-volume use); aluminum chassis provides EMI shielding + thermal mass that PLA / PETG / ASA prints cannot replicate
- Saffron pinstripe outer bezel — anodized aluminum integral with chassis; not separately replaceable
- Perforated mesh face — anodized aluminum + acoustic-mesh laminate; not 3D-printable (mesh requires laminate manufacturing)
IP rating disclaimer
3D-printed parts do NOT carry IP44 cert. Production parts are IP-rated; user-printed replacements are IP-not-rated. If you print a replacement mounting accessory:
- Mounting cleats / templates / jigs: IP rating not applicable (interior install; not directly exposed to environmental challenge)
- Wall-mount adapter for kitchen/bath-adjacent install: print in ASA + sealed with food-safe RTV silicone if exposed to cooking aerosol; IP rating not formal
- Dust shroud: not IP-rated; allows airflow to sensor while diverting cooking aerosol; print in PETG for transparency or ASA for opacity
- Ambassador tag holder: interior; IP not applicable
If you need an IP44-rated part, order the production aluminum part from Ambassador network at cost+10%.
UL listing disclaimer
Replacing the chassis or modifying the WanderCO unit physically (beyond mounting accessories) VOIDS the UL 217 + UL 2034 listing. Customer remains responsible for life-safety operation, but UL cert reference + WanderVerse warranty no longer apply.
If you want to extensively modify WanderCO physically, we recommend: 1. Use your modified WanderCO in standalone-only mode (never publicly market or claim UL cert) 2. Contact WWP Ambassador for cert re-verification service if you want to restore UL listing (subject to Ambassador-station UL test fixture run)
What 3D printing CANNOT replace
The following components are NOT printable + must come from the production supply chain:
- Figaro TGS5042 CO sensor (electrochemical sensor; refresh kit at year 9-10)
- Photoelectric smoke chamber (alignment-critical optical assembly)
- Sensirion SCD41 CO2 NDIR (Pro)
- Tadiran TLI-1550A LiSOCl2 cells
- Mallory MAL-LC-2812 piezo siren
- Cree CLM3C-AKA saffron LED ring
- ESP32-S3 + LoRa SX1262 + secure element
- Anodized aluminum chassis (cream + saffron pinstripe + perforated mesh face)
- PCBA + all silicon
These are catalogued in BOM-platform.csv + BOM-modules.csv and stocked through year 7 (cells through year 12) by the Ambassador network at cost+10%.
---
Year 8+ extended sharing
At year 8 from generation EOL, WanderVerse publishes:
- All STL files (already CC BY-SA 4.0 from day 1)
- Schematics (CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Firmware source (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 for cellular-integrated parts; CC BY-SA 4.0 for non-cellular code)
- Assembly instructions (CC BY-SA 4.0)
The 7-year-parts (with 10-year battery reconciliation) commitment ensures parts are available throughout the cert window. After that, community-self-repair via published files preserves long-tail support.
