WanderTherm is a planned smart thermostat in four tiers (Core, Plus, Pro, Lux) designed to replace Nest 4th Gen ($279) while delivering a meaningfully better experience: zero cloud required, covert mode + duress code (survivor / undocumented / hostile-state aware), identity-aware defaults, a planned later 24 V module for wired HVAC systems (not in v1), 7-year parts + open STL face plates + published schematics, AHRI 1380 + Energy Star Connected for utility rebate eligibility, Matter 1.3+ over WiFi + HomeKit + Google Home + Alexa + Home Assistant first-class, decision-tree schedule learning that explains itself (NOT opaque ML), Ambassador-assembled, 60/30/10 Community Pool. Every tier is designed around the same core: a Seeed XIAO ESP32-S3 brain, a Bourns PEC11R turning ring, a 4-pin JST I2C bay for plug-in modules, and USB-C 5 V power from a Phihong AQ15A-050B-H wall adapter. v1 talks to Home Assistant over Wi-Fi, which runs the ACs; it has no HVAC wires, no relays, no mains voltage, no battery and no sensors in the wall unit. Screens by tier: Core a small round color screen, Plus NHD-2.8, Pro NHD-3.12, Lux NHD-5.5. Pro and Lux add 24 GHz mmWave presence, off by default. All tiers feed the 60/30/10 Community Pool. Comparable competitors require cloud accounts, paywall geofencing, ship microphones in thermostats, and have no identity-aware defaults at all.
